China opposed the full deployment of THAAD in South Korea

The Chinese authorities have opposed the full deployment of the THAAD air defense system in South Korea.

Here's What We Know

This was announced by the Chinese Ambassador to South Korea, Xing Haiming. The statement was made after South Korea wanted to normalize the functioning of the THAAD missile system battery, which is now in a "temporary installation" phase. Seul wants the THAAD Terminal High Altitude Area Defense missile system to begin fully providing protection against the "North Korean threat.

The Chinese government considers THAAD a threat to the republic's national security during its rivalry with the United States. South Korea's desire to deploy the THAAD battery has become a problem in the relations between the two Asian states.

Note that the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense complex did not become a problem for China today. The authorities claim that former South Korean President Moon Jae-in promised to limit the system as part of the "three no's" policy. In particular, to refuse additional deployment of THAAD. Another "two no's" include refusing to join a military alliance with the U.S. and Japan, and not allowing the U.S. to manage missile defenses.
