U.S. sends HIMARS multiple rocket launchers to Latvia to participate in Namejs 2022 exercise

The United States delivered several M142 HIMARS multiple rocket launchers to Latvia.

Here's What We Know

Aircraft with U.S. Armed Forces rocket and artillery systems landed at Liepāja Airport and Spilve Airfield in Riga. The HIMARS will participate in Namejs 2022 in conjunction with the Latvian National Armed Forces.

On September 26, the HIMARS arrival site has already hosted an exercise on the landing and rapid deployment of highly mobile multiple rocket launchers. Earlier this month, the Latvian army discovered two targets that could not be hit with existing weapons. Therefore, a decision was made to request missile systems from the United States.

The HIMARS, which arrived at Liepaja airport, will go to the Šķēde military range. There they will be used to fire training rockets at targets located in Latvia's economic zone in the waters of the Baltic Sea.

In conclusion, we would like to add that after the large-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army, Latvia has expressed its desire to purchase M142 HIMARS. The government is ready to allocate up to €300 million to get the multiple rocket launchers by 2025. However, due to high demand supplies may be delayed for several years.
