Fighting game developers Sifu launch beta testing of their arcade football simulator without rules Rematch

In 2024, Sloclap, the studio behind the unique fighting game Sifu, surprised us with the announcement of its next project, the multiplayer football game Rematch. It might not seem like the most obvious choice for a studio known for martial arts, but the game seems to be surprisingly interesting. And this weekend, everyone will be able to see for themselves by taking part in the open beta testing that starts today, 18 April.
Here's What We Know
Rematch offers a fresh take on virtual football, different from most existing simulations. It is a multiplayer game where each player controls only one player on the field. This makes teamwork and coordination vital, as even without the ball, you need to constantly maintain your position and monitor the game to be ready to take advantage of any opportunity. The game is also characterised by simplified rules - there are no offsides or fouls, which should ensure continuous action on the pitch.
"You are always involved," said Sloclap developers during the first announcement of Rematch. "You can't take your hands off the controller even for half a second, because you need to move constantly to be in the centre of the action and take the right position.
At release, Rematch will cost $30, which may scare off some players who are used to free-to-play multiplayer projects. This open beta testing should dispel doubts and help you make up your mind.
To get access to the Rematch beta, go to the game's Steam page and click the "Request Access" button for GR. Sloclap said that access will be granted gradually to all those who sign up "as long as there are enough servers" and everyone should receive it by Friday evening or Saturday morning. The beta testing period has also been extended: it was originally supposed to last only one day, but will now end on 21 April. The full release of Rematch is scheduled for 19 June on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5.
