The era of destruction is back: DICE showcases large-scale building destruction in new Battlefield pre-alpha

Although details about the next instalment of the legendary shooter are still scarce, Battlefield developers have finally shown the long-awaited return to total destruction of the environment. In a short video from the pre-alpha version of the game, DICE demonstrated how the player can instantly collapse the side wall of a building, creating a new way to get inside.
Here's What We Know
Along with the demo, DICE shared a detailed explanation of how it plans to implement the destructible elements in the game. The main goal of the team is to provide players with the ability to "reshape the environment and transform their environment to gain a tactical advantage".
It is also noted that players will receive visual and audio cues that will indicate objects that can be destroyed. Although only a part of the building was destroyed in the demo, the final version of the game will allow players to "collapse an entire building to destroy an enemy unit".
Buildings and objects will not be destroyed instantly. Instead, they will "visually degrade", gradually taking damage before they start to collapse. The debris from the destruction will not disappear from the battlefield, and players will be able to use it as cover during firefights.
At the current stage of testing, DICE is focusing on how to clearly distinguish between non-destructive and destructive elements of the environment. The impact of destruction and collateral damage on the gameplay is also being investigated.
Despite the non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) signed by players to participate in the Battlefield tests, there have been many leaks of information online. The development team has expressed its dissatisfaction with this, in particular because these early tests do not necessarily reflect the final quality of the game.
Previous insights hinted at the release of the next Battlefield game in October 2025. However, EA has not yet officially announced a release window for the upcoming project.
