Spirit Aeronautical Systems will start production of AIHMI AHM-1X kamikaze drones with a launch range of up to 60km in 2024

At AUSA 2023, Greek startup Spirit Aeronautical Systems not only showed off the SARISA SRS-1A drone. The company also revealed a new barrage munition called AIHMI AHM-1X.

Here's What We Know

The AUSA 2023 was not the debut for the Greek kamikaze drone. The AIHMI AHM-1X was announced in the spring of 2023 at DEFEA 2023 in Athens. But in the US, the company revealed a timeline for the start of production of the new weapon.

It is learnt that work on the AIHMI AHM-1X has not yet been finalised. The barrage munition is now undergoing a series of tests. Spirit Aeronautical Systems plans to launch mass production of kamikaze drones at the end of 2023.

The AIHMI AHM-1X has a range of 60 kilometres. The kamikaze drone is capable of flying 45 kilometres and barraging another 15 kilometres. The warhead is a Hydra 70 unguided missile. Barrage munition can reach speeds of up to 140 km/h.

Spirit Aeronautical Systems notes that AIHMI AHM-1X can be a weapon for helicopters and larger drones. This includes a UAV called Talos II, which was announced at DEFEA 2023.
