The mystery is solved: People Can Fly's Project Maverick turned out to be a prequel to Gears of War

The intrigue around Project Maverick, a mysterious project by People Can Fly, the studio behind Bulletstorm and Outriders, has finally been cleared. After a long veil of secrecy, the developers have officially confirmed what their collaboration with Microsoft, which was announced back in June 2023, really is. At that time, it was reported that Project Maverick, which is fully funded by Microsoft with a budget of $30-50 million, is based on one of the existing Xbox franchises.
Here's What We Know
And now, People Can Fly has revealed the cards through the "About Us" section on the studio's investor website. And perhaps not too unexpectedly, Project Maverick turned out to be nothing more than Gears of War: E-Day. The fact that the studio is working with The Coalition on the next part of Gears of War became known back in January this year.
According to the information on the investor website People Can Fly, the studio is currently working on seven projects. Among them: Gemini, a new AAA game in partnership with Square Enix; Maverick (Gears of War: E-Day), a joint project with Microsoft; Echo, a mode for an existing game developed for Krafton; and Bifrost and Victoria (Lost Rift), which will be published independently.
In addition, People Can Fly is involved in the VR technology project Project Bison, a new immersive VR action-survival game, and its subsidiary Incuvo is actively working on a separate VR project Green Hell VR. It is worth mentioning that Incuvo is responsible for the rather controversial VR port of Bulletstorm, which, according to critics, left much to be desired.
As for Gears of War: E-Day, this is a prequel to the main series, which takes place 14 years before the events of the original game. Now, Gears of War fans are looking forward to new details and a demonstration of the gameplay of this project.
