Artificial intelligence helps drones destroy camouflaged Russian vehicles

Ukrainian developers together with the military initiative "Delta" have found a technological way to destroy camouflaged Russian equipment using drones.

What we know

Artificial intelligence algorithms are used for this purpose. Developers have trained AI to recognize camouflaged armored vehicles. While filming from a drone, the artificial intelligence identifies hidden vehicles and marks them with red squares. The UAV then sends the coordinates to the drone operator and headquarters commander.

Drones are usually equipped with one or more munitions, so they can immediately attack the target. For example, we recently wrote about how Ukrainian enthusiasts made a quadcopter that can carry three 82mm mines at once. There are also UAVs that can lift more bombs, i.e. can destroy two targets at once, including tanks.

The cost of an unmanned aerial vehicle is $15,000-20,000, and one bomb costs $1,000. Even at the roughest estimate, it would cost less than $200,000 to buy six UAVs with a dozen bombs. The price of one anti-tank missile system Javelin is $600,000, complete with six missiles. Naturally, the comparison can hardly be called correct, but still.

The developers point out that drones with AI do not use GPS during flight, due to which Russian countermeasures do not always work. Now the specialists are creating drones that will be able to lift a cargo weighing 20 kilograms and fly a distance of 50 kilometers.
